A one-year grace period has been announced for small businesses in relation to the maximum 52-hour workweek

On December 11, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced a plan to give small businesses a one-year reprieve from the maximum 52-hour system.

The grace period will benefit companies hiring 50 to 299 employees who were supposed to implement the system by 2020.

During the one-year grace period, these small businesses will be exempt from the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s inspection on compliance with the work hours cap.

Even if an employee files a case with the Ministry for an employer’s violation of the 52-hour system, the employer will be given six months to correct the problem.
